01How it works, step by step
Wix announced Wix Harmony on January 21, 2026, as its AI website builder combining prompt-based editing with its visual editor. Its agent, Aria, can change color schemes, redesign a page or add store features from a request, and Wix says it works within the site's structure so that one change does not break another.
- 1Describe the siteAnswer questions about the business, its goals and style in a chat.
- 2Get a generated siteWix builds pages, layout, text and images to match.
- 3Edit with Aria or by handAsk for changes in plain language, or move to the visual editor.
- 4Add business featuresBookings, stores and forms come from Wix's own apps.
- 5PublishFree on a Wix address, or on your domain with a paid plan.
02What it costs
The AI builder is available on the free plan, which publishes on a wixsite.com address with Wix ads. Light is $17 a month billed yearly, or about $24 billed monthly; it removes ads and includes a custom domain free for the first year. Store and booking features need higher plans. Wix's review page tracks the full plan list.
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | AI builder and editor, Wix ads, wixsite.com address |
| Light | $17/mo yearly, about $24 monthly | No ads, custom domain free for a year |
| Higher plans | More per month | Store, bookings, more storage and features |
03Strengths and limits
When Wix first showed prompt-based site generation in 2023, Hacker News readers questioned the quiz-style interface and worried about more look-alike sites. Harmony's chat editing addresses the first concern more than the second.
- Strength: one of the largest app ecosystems for bookings, stores and forms.
- Strength: you can always drop into a full visual editor.
- Limit: sites stay on Wix; you cannot export them as code to host elsewhere.
- Limit: generated designs can look similar across businesses.
- Limit: prices rise quickly once you add business features.
04Wix AI vs other AI builders
Wix is strongest when you need business features in one place. AI builders that produce code, such as Lovable or Orlume, are stronger when you want ownership or a distinctive design. Wix vs Squarespace, Lovable vs Wix and the best AI website builders compare them.
05Getting a better result from Wix AI
The same advice applies to any AI builder: the quality of what you describe sets the ceiling for what you get. How to write a prompt for an AI website builder has examples.
- Give specifics: your services, prices, area and who you serve, not just "a bakery".
- Rewrite the generated text in your own voice before publishing.
- Replace stock images with your own photos where you can.
- Remove sections you do not need; generated sites often include extras.
06Is it worth it?
For a small business that wants bookings, a store or forms without stitching tools together, yes. For a simple portfolio or one-page site, Wix's free plan shows ads and the paid plans cost more than simpler tools such as Carrd.
What people who tried it say
Hacker News reactions to Wix's AI site generator ranged from doubts about its chat quiz to a freelancer saying clients pay them for relationships, not construction; a 2026 thread on leaving Wix showed that clarity matters more than novelty.

Readers questioned the chat-style quiz interface, worried about more look-alike sites, and a freelancer said it did not threaten them because clients pay for relationships and peace of mind, not construction.

A consultancy owner replaced a $40-a-month Wix site with a custom AI agent; commenters said they could no longer tell what the business did, a reminder that clarity beats novelty on a business site.

Our take
Wix AI is a fast way into the Wix ecosystem, and the ecosystem is the real product. Choose it for the apps, not for the AI.
Where this falls short
Wix rolls out Harmony gradually and changes plans often; features may differ by language and account. Prices are US, checked October 2026.
If you want an AI-built site you can take with you, Orlume generates real React and Next.js code, publishes in one click, and offers code download on paid plans.
