01Prices and renewals
GoDaddy's pages refuse automated reading, so these figures come from TechRadar's review, last verified in February 2026, and Website Builder Expert's pricing breakdown, which agree. Prices are per month on yearly billing.
| Plan | First term | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $9.99/mo | $16.99/mo |
| Premium | $14.99/mo | $29.99/mo |
| Commerce | $20.99/mo | $34.99/mo |
02What Airo AI does
Airo is GoDaddy's AI layer. Its first version, in 2024, suggested domain names, logos and a starting site from a description of the business. In September 2025 GoDaddy announced Airo Site Designer, which creates a multi-page WordPress site with copy, images and layout from a plain-text description, as part of its managed WordPress hosting. GoDaddy has since launched Airo.ai in beta, a set of agents that carry out tasks such as registering a domain or building a site, asking for approval before major actions.
So "GoDaddy AI website builder" can mean two products: the hosted Website Builder with AI setup, or Airo Site Designer on WordPress. The WordPress route gives more flexibility and plugins; the hosted builder is simpler.
03Strengths and weaknesses
For a plumber or a local shop that needs a credible page this week, GoDaddy works. For a design-led brand, Squarespace or a designed AI site will look better.
- Strength: very fast to get a basic site live.
- Strength: domain, email, site and marketing tools in one account.
- Weakness: section-based layouts with limited design freedom.
- Weakness: renewal prices well above the first term.
- Weakness: sites on the hosted builder cannot be exported.
04Alternatives at a similar price
At similar prices, Wix offers far more apps and Squarespace better design; Hostinger is cheaper if you prepay. How much does a website builder cost? compares them, and the best website builder for small business ranks options for local businesses.
05Who should choose GoDaddy
Skip it if design is part of how you sell, if you expect the site to grow into a store or content hub, or if the renewal price would strain the budget.
- Owners whose domain and email are already at GoDaddy and want one bill.
- Local service businesses that need a simple, credible site quickly.
- People who would rather call support than learn an editor.
06Before you buy
Website builder vs WordPress explains the trade-off between the two GoDaddy routes.
- 1Check the renewal priceBasic renews at $16.99 a month on TechRadar's figures, not $9.99.
- 2Decide hosted builder or WordPressAiro Site Designer builds WordPress sites; the hosted builder is simpler but locked in.
- 3Keep DNS where you can manage itIf you may move later, keep the domain somewhere easy to repoint.
07GoDaddy vs Wix vs Squarespace at a glance
Over three years, the gap between GoDaddy and Wix narrows once GoDaddy's renewal price applies.
| Builder | Entry price | Renewal or monthly | Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoDaddy | $9.99/mo yearly | $16.99/mo renewal | Speed and one account for domain, email and site |
| Wix | $17/mo yearly | About $24 monthly | Apps and flexibility |
| Squarespace | $19/mo yearly | About $25 monthly | Polished design |
What people who tried it say
Freelancers on Hacker News rarely mention GoDaddy's builder in their toolkits, choosing coded stacks, WordPress or Framer, and recommend keeping domains and DNS somewhere easy to manage.
- Ask HN: Freelance website builders/maintainers, what's in your 2024 toolkit?Hacker News
Freelancers split between coded stacks and hosted builders; one noted that Webflow agencies made sites predictable enough to sell at flat rates, and another said they had moved marketing sites to Framer.
- Tell HN: I think there are major issues with Google to Squarespace domainsHacker News
A freelancer reported slow DNS updates after the Google Domains migration; replies recommended keeping DNS with a separate provider such as Cloudflare, whatever registrar or builder you use.

Our take
use GoDaddy's builder for speed, not for a site you will grow. Budget for the renewal price from day one.
Where this falls short
Prices are from third-party reviews dated 2026 because GoDaddy's pages block automated reading; check GoDaddy's checkout for current prices in your country.
