01What you get for the money
Lovable turns a chat into a working web app with pages, user accounts, a database and hosting. As of October 2026, the free plan gives 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, with the Lovable badge and no custom domain. Pro is $25 a month billed monthly ($21 a month billed yearly) for 100 monthly credits, plus the same daily credits without the monthly cap, custom domains, badge removal and code editing.
Every plan also gets small monthly grants for Lovable Cloud (hosting and back end), AI features inside your app and connectors, according to Lovable's credits documentation. Unused monthly credits roll over but expire two months after they are issued on monthly plans.
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $25/mo monthly, $21/mo yearly |
| Build credits | 5 a day, max 30 a month | 100 a month plus 5 a day |

| Code editing and download | No | Yes |
02Where Lovable is worth every credit
Lovable shines when you need a real app fast and the alternative is weeks of development. Product managers use it to prototype flows for user testing; founders use it to put a working version in front of early customers; small teams build internal tools that would never get engineering time.
- Prototypes with real logins and data, not just clickable mockups.
- Internal tools: dashboards, trackers, simple admin panels.
- Validating an idea with paying users before hiring developers.
- Learning how a full-stack app fits together, by watching it get built.
03Where it gets expensive or frustrating
The most common complaint is cost unpredictability. Lovable charges each message by how complex the task is: its pricing page gives examples from 0.5 credits for a small styling change to 1.7 for a landing page with generated images. When the AI introduces a bug and then spends several messages fixing it, those messages cost credits too. How Lovable credits work explains the mechanics and how to spend fewer.
The second is growth. As an app gets bigger, each change touches more code, and the AI is more likely to break something. Many teams use Lovable to get to a first version, then move the code to a developer who works on it directly.
The third is security. In 2025, Semafor reported that many Lovable-built apps exposed user data because database access rules were missing. Lovable has since added security checks, but anything handling personal data still needs review.
04Is Lovable worth it for a website?
Lovable can build websites, but it is designed around apps. Two things matter for a marketing site that Lovable does not prioritize. First, design: sites built this way tend to share a recognizable look unless you prompt carefully. Second, SEO: Lovable's own FAQ says its React apps render on the client by default and recommends turning on prerendering so search engines receive fully rendered HTML.
If the goal is a website that ranks and looks designed, a builder made for websites is usually a better fit. Can Lovable build websites? goes deeper, and the Lovable review compares it with alternatives.
05How to decide in five minutes
- 1Do you need user accounts and a database?Yes: Lovable is a strong fit. No: a website builder is likely simpler and better-looking.
- 2Try the free plan on your real idea30 credits a month is enough to see whether the first version comes out right.
- 3Watch credit use on the first featureIf one feature takes ten messages of fixes, budget for that pattern.
- 4Check you can leaveConnect GitHub early so the code is yours wherever you take it next.
- 5Plan the handoverIf the app succeeds, decide when a developer will take over the code directly.
What people who tried it say
Hacker News is divided along use cases. People prototyping and building internal tools are enthusiastic; developers who looked under the hood often describe the code as messy, and many comments question whether flat pricing fits usage-based AI costs.
- Is Lovable getting monetization wrong?Hacker News
Commenters debate whether a $25 flat plan can cover usage-based AI and hosting costs, note that free users generate most apps, and suggest Lovable let users monetize what they build. One heavy user calls it great for PM prototyping.
- Lovable.dev is absolutely amazingHacker News
A positive write-up that drew a mix of enthusiasm from people building quick apps and skepticism from developers about code quality and long-term maintainability.

Our take
Lovable is one of the best ways to get from idea to working app in a day, and the free plan is enough to find out if it fits. Pay for it when you need speed on a real app; do not pay for it to make a marketing site.
Where this falls short
Prices, credit costs and features change often; these were checked in October 2026. Credit use varies hugely by project, so no one can tell you in advance what a month will cost you.
If what you need is a website rather than an app, Orlume is built for that job: it decides layout, type and hierarchy before writing code, and publishes a Next.js site in one click. The free plan includes 10 message credits.
